PL/SQL has been around for a very long time and its perfect interoperability with SQL, its performance and robustness as a language are qualities highly valued among a lot of database developers.
However, in a fast-moving world we need to be able to adapt the implementation to the needs of our clients faster than ever before - without losing stability and reliability.
What we need is code that is easy to change and robust to changes.
In this talk you will join a database developer of the Star Wars Imperial Army who explores how and why aiming for testability will increase the robustness, changeability and maintainability of his legacy PL/SQL code - even if writing tests is not part of the main goal.
Together, you will examine which factors determine whether code is testable or not, what the underlying principles are and how specific parts of the PL/SQL code can be improved for testability while also facing challenges around performance, trade-offs and myths.
